Celtic Park racism probe cops find ‘no suspects’ over ‘abuse’ aimed at Livingston’s Ayo Obileye

“No suspects” have been identified in connection with alleged racist abuse towards Livingston’s Ayo Obileye at a premiership game at Celtic Park, police have confirmed.

An investigation was launched after an American journalist alleged that the defender was subjected to racist abuse by a member of the Parkhead crowd in October.

Philip Crowther, White House correspondent for the Associated Press, was in Glasgow for the COP 26 climate conference.

He attended the match at Celtic Park, posting videos of the crowd singing You’ll Never Walk Alone.

A penalty was given to Celtic after Obileye slapped Kyogo Furuhashi on the back of the head during the cinch match.

Crowther alleged that the footballer was called racist names by a Celtic fan.

Both football clubs said they were “in contact” regarding the accusation at the time.

Police Scotland have now confirmed that no suspect has been identified despite “extensive” enquiries.

However, they have urged that any new information will be thoroughly investigated.
