Corrie to reveal shock news over Peter Barlow’s transplant

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street will reveal some shocking news next week, as Peter Barlow’s liver transplant storyline is revisited.

After a number of setbacks, Peter finally received a new liver last summer, having sustained serious damage to his own liver after years of living with alcoholism.

Peter (Chris Gascoyne) has been doing well since receiving the organ transplant and, in scenes airing next week, he attends a consultation with Mr Thorne (Dominic Mafham), who is introduced as Aggie Bailey’s new boss at the hospital this week.

Although Mr Thorne and Aggie’s working relationship appears to get off to a good start, despite his tough reputation, things take a turn when Mr Thorne feels that Aggie (Lorna Laidlaw) is trying to make him look incompetent in front of a patient.

He soon gives Aggie a verbal warning, leaving her stunned.

Later on, Aggie is horrified when she hears Mr Thorne bragging to a colleague about how he rushed Peter’s operation in order to win a bet.

Aggie later tells another nurse that somebody has reported Mr Thorne for his actions, and she then discovers that all of her boss’s scheduled operations have been canceled until further notice.

Chris Gascoyne revealed last year, before Peter’s transplant scenes aired, that he had always suspected that his character would continue to fall off the wagon until his situation became desperate, calling him a “complex” character.

“He is a great character to play because deep down he is a good person but the drink changes his personality,” he explained.

“To have so many different sides of a character to play means it is always interesting to get the scripts and see what he is going to do next.”

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Wednesday, May 4 and Friday, May 6 at 8pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
