Man arrested on suspicion of ‘masturbating’ publicly in Cheltenham

A man has been arrested and released after police received reports of someone “masturbating” publicly in Cheltenham last night (Monday, April 25). Officers from Gloucestershire Constabulary were called to Arle Avenue at 7.25pm.

It had been reported that a man was masturbating while sitting on a grass bank with his trousers and underwear pulled down. The officers attended and arrested a 34-year-old Cheltenham man on suspicion of outraging public decency.

He has since been released from custody, but police would still like to hear from anyone with any information about the incident. They also sought to reassure the local community that this was an isolated incident.

Gloucestershire Constabulary said: “We’re appealing for witnesses after a man committed a lewd act in Cheltenham last night, Monday 25 April. Officers were called to Arle Avenue at 7.25pm ​​after it was reported that a man was masturbating whilst sat on a grass bank with his trousers and underwear pulled down.

“Officers attended and arrested a 34-year-old man from Cheltenham on suspicion of outraging public decency. He has since been released from custody.

“Despite the arrest investigating officers are asking anyone with information to please get in contact. Information can be submitted by completing the following form online and quoting incident number 358 of 25 April.

“Alternatively, you can call 101 and quote the same incident number. Officers would like to reassure the local community that this was an isolated incident.”
