Mariah Carey has launched a new MasterClass in which she teaches fans songwriting and producing.

On Thursday, the 53-year-old music icon announced on Twitter that she had released the online series titled titled Mariah Carey: Teaches the Voice as an Instrument.

‘For the first time, I am letting cameras in to witness my creative process,’ she wrote in her Tweet, sharing a two-minute promo clip for the class.

The Fantasy songstress continued, ‘Now on MasterClass, I’m inviting you to ‘The Butterfly Lounge’, my musical sanctuary where I write new songs, re-imagine classics, and collaborate with artists of different genres.’

In the video, Mariah donned various black ensembles with glittery gold necklaces and a diamond butterfly ring.

The We Belong Together singer was seen sitting in an ornate gold chair as she discussed her motivation for teaching the course.

‘Music saved my life in many, many ways,’ she said.

‘If I can do the same for other people than that’s everything.’

Mariah, who debuted at the age of 18, explained that she had not realized that she was actually producing in addition to singing and songwriting when she worked on her eponymous first album.

‘I love creating music and having melodies run through me is an incredible feeling,’ the New York native said.

‘I just hear what I hear and I sing it. In the beginning, my first album, I didn’t know that I was producing.

‘Mind you, I was a teenage girl at this point. And I’m sitting there with grown men, going, “Can you raise the strings here?” “I want to do just an a capella moment here and then we’ll bring the beat back in.”‘

Mariah shared that she strives to write and produce music that people can relate to and that evokes an emotional response.

‘Keeping things general but still trying to reveal a specific emotion that I was feeling in hopes that other people could relate to it.

The video concluded with a humorous moment as Mariah, who was sitting on the couch in her studio with one of her dogs, burst out laughing as the pup looked up at her and whined.

‘Please tell me you got that,’ she told the videographer.

According to Rolling Stone, the online series, which is available to stream now for subscribers, features nine different video lessons.

Members can also download a guide that includes Mariah’s tips on songwriting, producing and sampling.

In the course, Mariah, who has a five-octave vocal range, will teach people to use their voices not just for singing but also for songwriting, producing and instrumentation.

The course includes lessons such as ‘Taking Care of Your Voice’, ‘Writing With Samples’, and ‘Producing With Your Voice’.

In ‘Surviving in the Music Industry’, Mariah will share some of the challenges that she faced over her decades-long career and will instruct subscribers on navigating the business and preserving creative control over their music.

Per a press release obtained by Rolling Stone, Brandy, who makes an appearance in the promo clip, will join the star in the studio as they work on ‘reimagined’ version of Mariah’s 1997 hit The Roof, which will feature The Boy Is Mine hitmaker .

Fans will also get to see Mariah ‘in action as she directs Brandy on background vocals.’
